Transcription: The Permian extinctions occurred in the boundaries between what biologists call the Paleozoic and the Mesozoic eras. That's about 250 million years ago. At that point, over 90% of all the species of marine animals were driven into extinction, and terrestrial life crashed as well. Eight out of the 27 orders of Permian insects, for example, didn't survive. Actually, it's been estimated that 96% of all the species existing at that time went extinct, 96%!
